The Swiss Foundation of Terre des hommes (Tdh) with headquarters
in Lausanne, Switzerland, is the largest Swiss children’s
aid organization operating outside Switzerland. Since 1960, the
movement has been active wherever children are in need. The movement
follows the Charter of its founder, Edmond Kaiser, pledging to provide
direct and non-bureaucratic assistance to children in distress,
wherever they may be. Through resolute commitment and long-term
experience, Terre des hommes today plays a leading role in the field
of humanitarian aid at an international level. With emergency action
and long-term projects, Terre des hommes is fighting for children’s
rights in 30 countries, practicing a strict policy of political,
racial and religious neutrality.
The Terre des hommes Foundation
is a member of the International Federation Terre des Hommes (IFTDH).
Worldwide, the IFTDH is one of the largest NGO federations providing
aid for children in need. It has a consultative status with the
United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), UNICEF, ILO
and the Council of Europe. The IFTDH is a network of nine member
organizations in the following countries: Germany, Canada, Denmark,
France, Italy, Luxembourg, Switzerland (including the two organizations
Tdh-Switzerland and the Tdh Foundation in Lausanne, Switzerland)
and Syria. The network works in partnership with Tdh organizations
like Spain and Netherlands. Members of the IFTDH support 840 development
and humanitarian aid projects in 71 countries.
In October 2001, Terre des hommes
launched an international campaign: Stop Child Trafficking. The
campaign is run – together with local partners – by
regional coordinators and delegates in 33 countries of the six regions:
Europe, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Southern Africa, South America
and Western Africa.
